August numbers for China tea exports and US tea imports under HS codes 0902 show declines:
CHINA EXPORTS
Data from the China Tea Marketing Association reveals a 20.4% decrease in exports over the previous August.
- Average export price increased to $6.19/kg, a 11.51% increase over August 2019
- Total exports for the year are down 4.8% over the previous 2019 period
- Green tea accounted for about 84% of export volume
- Exports of all forms of tea (eg. green, black, wulong, etc), except pu'er, saw declines
US IMPORTS
US Census Bureau statistics released show import volumes are also down:
US import volumes are down 30.5% for the year, and down 28.7% vs August 2019:
- Black tea volumes saw some rebound of the previous 3 month decline
- Some packaged teas saw gains in volume, value, or both over the previous August
- Total tea imports from worldwide decreased by 6.4% over August 2019 and dropped 12.9% for the year
