August Tea Report: 2021 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the China Tea Marketing Association and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for August 2021.

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Jan-Aug total export volume is down 4.3% year on year
• Average prices are up 2.3% over the previous August to $6.33/kg
• Exports of green tea volume increased 2.5% over August 2020
• Exports of black tea volume dropped 3.6% over same time last year

US IMPORTS

10.2% of all US tea imports were from China

45% of all organic US tea imports were from China

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average price for August global imports was $4.54/kg
• Average price for August China imports was $4.46/kg
• 33.7% of all green tea import (volume) was from China, but only 15.3% of value
