April Tea Report: 2021 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the China Tea Marketing Association and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for April 2021.

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Overall export volume dropped 22.3% year on year
• Prices are up 2.1% over the previous April to $5.91/kg
• Exports of black tea volume declined 13.4% over April 2020
• Exports of green tea volume decreased 23.4% over same time last year

US IMPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average prices for April global imports was $4.47/kg
• Average prices for April China imports was $3.87/kg
• 40.9% of all green tea import (volume) was from China, but only 16.5% of value
• 50% of all organic tea import (volume) was from China, but only 13% of value
